Ingrown Toenail Removal Gone WRONG

I had an ingrown toenail avulsion performed about three weeks ago. Since then, that base of my big toenail has remained red, hard and swollen, sometimes producing pus. The skin is pulling back away from the nail at the nail bed and is very rounded and protruding. A few days ago, that side of my nail also started to turn brown.

I believe the doctor left a chunk of nail connected to the matrix down there and I probably also have a fungal infection.

The problem is, I'm a volunteer in Paraguay and the health care is sub-par and won't be back in the states until July. The doctor admits to screwing up the procedure but now wants to take out an even bigger slice of my nail and has me on my third round of Cefalexin, 500mg, 3x a day. The AB hasn't fixed the problem and is also giving me terrible digestion issues.

What do I do? Please help.

Unbelievable sharp/electric pain on lateral foot + little toe

OK.

4 days ago I noticed that, after standing all day watching surgery, I had a quick twinge of pain in my little toe, no big deal.

Well, for the last 3 days I have been having intermittent stabbing pain, easily 9/10 level of pain, localized to the lateral side of my right foot and little toe. The pain is deeper than the skin, and feels like a (terrible) shock of electricity. The pain seems to lie along the S1 dermatome. Motor function, and sensation to my little toe are NOT impaired.

This pain is worse at night, and wakes me up often in the early morning hours.

It doesn't spread beyond the side of my foot. It comes on quickly, and goes away after a second. Time between attacks can vary from 15 mintues, to a minute or so.

I notice during the day it might not be so bad, and some nights I can sleep through the night. It really seems variable, but one thing is for sure, the pain is severe, and worse at night.

I do not wear tight shoes, I am not on medication, and I have no health problems to speak of.

Thank you!

I seem to have always had a weak left ankle and when playing football a few weeks ago I landed funny on my foot so i had it bandaged for 2 days and it seemed ok. However since then when I have done sport and I have landed from jumping, for whatever reason, despite landing normally it begins to hurt and becomes painful to walk on. Also when I tilt my foot outwards, my little toe being the highest toe, I get sharp pains in the area just in front of my ankle bone (towards my toes). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have suffered from a Jones Fracture which I had surgery to repair. That healed fine and I had no more trouble with my right foot until 5 days ago when my foot started hurting for no reason at all. I didn't injure it or drop anything on it, but it hurts to put weight on it. It even hurts when I'm not on it similar to the pain of the Jones fracture. I also have a large bump on the side of the foot close to where the pain is coming from. My doctor sees nothing abnormal on xray. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Suffered an acute 5th meta fx on 1/15. Went to urgent care center for x-rays and confirmed the fx. They put on a hard splint, wrapped it and sent me on my way. Went to OS on 1/19 who prescribed aircast FP walker. None weight bearing(crutches) for 3 weeks, then progressive weight bearing until follow up appointment on 3/1 to re x-ray. From the x-ray, is this a true "Jones fracture"? Does this sound like a good course of treatment? I was kind of hoping they would use screw fixation right away because it sounds like a more effective treatment than the cast and wait method.

(Ignore the text on the pic. I was getting made fun of for breaking my baby toe.)

Was playing tennis in somewhat new shoes with my orthotics. Noticed they felt a bit snug, with my arch feeling the orthotic supports more than usual. one hour in, sharp pain, like my toes and top of foefoot we're being crushed. Pain went away and finished playing. A few hours later, intense burning pain. swelling , redness from ball radiating into all 4 small toes. Felt like a knife inside my foot. No bruising. Redness. Had X-ray, negative, thought it might be gout, Uric acid normal. Taking inthomethacin and prednisone, finally some relief, but soreness returns with minor walking. is this metatarsalgia? Going for MRI possibly next week. Advice?

Daughter broke her fifth metatarsal in June 2011. After 12 weeks she was finally cleared to resume all activities which included going away to college as a dance major. Seem to have absolutly no problems with her foot dancing hard everyday. She was home for Christmas break and while dancing in her home studio somehow rolled her foot and heard a pop. Immediatly went to an Urgent Care to get xrays to see if she refractured it. The radiologist could not determine whether what he saw on the xray was just residual healing and thought perhaps she just sprained it. Next day went to see our Orthopedic Dr who at first said he didn't think it was broken. Went home with an air cast and told to apply the R.I.C.E.
treatment. Went back 2 weeks later for 2nd xray. This time Dr. seemed to think maybe it could possibly be broken. Still is not 100% sure. Told her if it feels better and she can put weight on it then she can start walking, etc. Now less then a week later daughter tells me her foot feels fine and it doesn't hurt when she walks. Is this possible? Will this foot always have reoccuring problems and will she be prone to future injury?

Two weeks ago during a futbol match I did something to my foot. As I was running to get the ball in mid stride I heard a pop and when I put my foot down I nearly fell. I don't know if something hit my boot or what, but I was immediately taken off the field. When I removed my boot and sock the arch my foot was already bruising and I could put very little pressure on it. By the next morning I couldn't put any pressure on my foot without severe pain and the bruising had encompassed my whole arch and up to my ankle bone. The pain was consistent whether I was sitting down or attempting to walk. I've rested, iced, compressed and elevated and its been two weeks and I'm still having pain. The bruising is almost gone but the swelling is still there. I can walk now but my gait is still off just a bit (I think I'm using more of the outside of my foot which now seems to be causing knee pain). When standing I can put 100% pressure on it and as of two days ago I could stand on my toes. So it is getting better but there is still a consistent uncomfortable feeling whether I'm walking or sitting. I originally thought it was Planta Fasciitis but the pain isn't in the heel and it doesn't get better throughout the day.
