I've had a problem with my left foot for 18 months or so now but no idea what I've done to it.
I do remember something heavy falling onto it at one point and I've stood on small toys a few times which is always really painful.

18 months ago I couldn't bear to stand on tip toes or wear high heels. This has very slowly got better although it can still be painful sometimes.
Sometimes I'll move my foot, just slightly, the wrong way and it feels like something clicks out of place. It's excruciatingly painful for seconds and then slowly the pain wears off. I can't walk at a normal pace without it bring painful although this has eased over the past year.

I've had it xrayed which showed if was ok. I've had physio and the cuboid manipulated which let me in a lot of pain the following day. Since then it hurts, aches all the time and after a day at work recently I couldn't even bear weight on it.
It's better now but achey and feels bruised.

I'd just be grateful for any ideas of what might be going on as I'm now feeling like people think I'm imagining it.

Hi. I fell on January 18th (4 months ago) and that resulted in my foot bending too far forward (toes pointing away from my leg). I had an MRI. It was inconclusive as I have a huge amount of swelling, but it generally indicated that I have 4 ligaments that have been torn, with 3 of them appearing to be severed completely, including 1 on the outside, 1 in the middle and 1 on the inside and the 4th one shows only torn and it is also on the outside. I currently have aggressive physical therapy and see a specialist. My symptoms are still pretty significant. As long as I stay off it, the swelling isn't bad and I can walk ok (I haven't been out of a brace since the incident. I wore a boot cast for 2 months and then a figure 8 brace since then), but after I walk a few blocks the pain can be nearly intolerable sometimes. Anyway, the specialist advised me yesterday to push it as far as I can. He told me to get rid of the brace and go about my normal activites. He said that the only way I can hurt it worse than it's already hurt is if I re-roll it (I didn't roll it in the first place). I'm so concerned about this advise. My primary doctor believes that I need surgery. My physical therapist told me that she has never seen an injury this significant without surgery. This is a workers compensation injury, so I am limited as to which doctors I can see. Does anyone know about this type of injury and can you reassure me that I am getting sound advise from this doctor?

I broke my 5th metatarsal 8 weeks ago. 7 weeks ago I had surgery to put a pin in to help heal faster. Yesterday, I was doing some light jogging with little to no pain. However, when I took off my shoe, I noticed I could see the outline of the pin on my skin. It may not of been the pin itself, but maybe the muscles? Either way, I could see a definite bump in my foot and now I am wondering if this is normal? Am I suppose to see the outline of the pin like that?

I will lay out all what I find to be relevant details, hopefully someone has some ideas or can point to a similar thread/problem....thanks!

For a long time I would get soleus pain/tightness after 2-3 minutes of running on a treadmill...I decided to get out of my 5yr old outlet purchase shoes, go to Road Runner sports for a running test and get put in some quality shoes with custom insoles. I ended up in some $100 Brooks stability shoes with custom insoles for my high arches. I started running, soleus tightness was there at first but was slowly getting better.

Okay I thought, cool. Fast-forward a couple weeks, business trip to Boston, walked around the city all day in my running shoes, no problem. Meetings next day, then walked around for a couple hours in fairly new dress shoes (no insoles), no problem. Washington DC the next day, head out on the start of a long walk in my running shoes and pretty quick start noticing my left knee hurts (lingering issue, not the point here) and my right foot is uncomfortable with the insole feeling like it's somewhat digging into my foot and my right heel starting to hurt. It didn't really go away the next few days. Return home, and now for almost a week - the back of my right heel has a fairly bad stabbing pain every step, only in my dress shoes. A little better when I put the insoles in my dress shoes. More or less fine with I wear my running shoes or loose fitting skate type shoes or walk around barefoot. The pain has been getting slightly better each day, but it's the worst in the morning and still there.

Any thoughts??

my heel is very sore. it feels like a giant blister underneath the skin. from what i can see, there isnt anything stuck in my foot or anything on the surface such as a verucca or blister. the area that is causing pain is about the size of a 50p coin. it hurts when i apply pressure to the area and even when i just rub it. the skin above the area is quite rough (but its like that on the other foot too) and the heel is slightly red and swollen. does anyone know what is causing this?! help will be greatly appreciated.

I have been googling like crazy trying to get some info on my mid foot sprain and came across this site - I am hoping to find someone here who has answers to some of my questions. I apologize in advance for the length of my post - thanks for taking the time to read it :)

History -
I injured my mid foot back in June 2011. I was playing dodgeball with a group of kids in flat flip flops (I know - I wasn't planning to play, hence the horrible footwear) I stomped my foot down and immediately felt a burning pain. The next morning the top of my foot was pretty swollen and bruised. Next comes a string of dr's and different diagnoses:
1. Primary Dr says I have a sprain or strain, no biggie, just take some anti inflamitories for the pain and it will be gone soon.
2. See my primary again a month or two later who tells me I am not 18 anymore and to give it time to heal.
3. Self refer to a ankle and foot Dr - he takes some terrible x rays and tells me MAYBE he sees a stress fracture already healing - wraps my foot a bit and sends me on my way with no other instructions other than it will get better.
4. Self refer to a orthopeadic surgeons office - the dr can't see me so I see the PA who takes x rays - is totally stumped, tells me he thinks it is arthritis in my midfoot and says I need to see the dr (DUH)
5. 1st appointment with the ortho surgeon - says no arthritis, but sprain in the mid foot joint. His solution, two cortisone injections into the joint OUCH!!! Tells me that should do the trick - sends me off with no limitations. But tells me to get happy feet for my tennis shoes for when I work out. Tells me I have very high arches.
6. Cortisone works for two weeks (after the initial days of horrible pain) and then it is right back. I see him again and he tells me it should be getting better, wear ONLY your tennis shoes with the arch supports for one month and see how it does.
7. Back to see him again after a month with it no better. He casts me for custom orthotics and orders an MRI.
8. I go in to see him after he gets the MRI. He says he can see the inflammation on the MRI and says mid foot sprain - he doesn't see any hidden stress fractures. He offers me another cortisone injection, this time in a different area, just near the swelling not in the joint. I declined. I asked him if immobolizing with a boot would help, he said no. He said just wait it out "one day you will wake up and it will just be gone" YEA RIGHT!

So here I am - approaching a year since the original injury and it is super sore and swollen today. Now, I have to say, my injury is not so bad that it stops me from doing my day to day tasks. Yes, it gets swollen and sore - especially when I am on it a lot - but it's not like I can't walk. I just don't know what to do at this point. It is obviously not getting better. By not treating it and just waiting - can I cause further damage? This ortho surgeon is pretty respected in the area - but should I seek another opinion?? I am not gunning for surgery or anything, it just seems nothing isn't the answer either.

One month ago, I posted the following thread:

QUOTE

Started feeling slight numbness in left foot two years ago. Also had increasing back pain. Back pain sufficiently severe that sitting down was not possible for longer than 30 or so minutes. Diagnosis from several specialists tracked back pain to slipped disk in L3-L4-L5 spinal region. Fusion back surgery scheduled and performed.

The result was IMMEDIATE back pain relief, and normal sitting regained. However, occasional foot numbness remained. Numbness seemed to start propagating up left leg.

After back surgery, contracted MRSA virus and underwent extensive antibiotic infusion treatment. MRSA infection resolved. But during recovery rehabilitation (was left debilitated from the infection), slipped and fractured right hip. Hip pinned and successfully repaired.

However, increasing numbness continued up left leg to a point slightly below the knee. Also began experiencing sudden severe leg cramps in both legs, together with excruciating pain. These occur principally at night, waking me up from sound sleep. The numbness has also spread to the lower right foot. I can detect cold and heat on the bottom of my feet when standing on a slab floor, but have trouble being certain that my feet are firmly planted. I have trouble with my sense of balance also.

Surgeons who performed the back and hip repairs indicate surgeries were successful. This has been confirmed by 2nd opinions, including MRI scans of all affected parts. Additional tests carried out to check for diabetes, and this has shown no diabetes.

Have undergone neurological testing which reveals decreased nerve conduction velocities in the legs. Neurologists diagnose “Peripheral Neuropathy Disorder” but so far offer no discernible path to relief of the pain, lessening of numbness, or any statements about possible remedies.

Am concerned about the progression of pain and numbness, and my loss of mobility. My quality of life has taken a hit.!

Looking for ideas and options.

UNQUOTE

I did not receive any reply.

Either no one who knows info saw the post, or there is no information.

So I now ask:

Does anyone know of a U. S. medical center that is a RECOGNIZED authority for neurological / nerve diseases and treatment?

If one has a cardiac problem, arguably the best medical center in the United States is the "Cleveland Clinic".

What would be an equivalent clinic in Neuropathy medical treatment?

Thanks.
Hurt like heck, unlaced my shoe to get it off of my foot, iced it. It started bruising immediately and is quite swollen across the top of my foot. I have very little pain. Walking and flexing/pointing are not painful. However, my foot is significantly colder than my non-injured foot. Is this cause for concern? Could I have a fracture and not feel pain from it?

I was diagnosed with nondisplaced Lisfranc Injury 3 months ago (right foot). I was put in a molded boot and have been wearing it + some P/T.
I have tried weaning myself off of the boot since these boots can create problems of their own (toe stiffness, achilles stiffness, etc).
New weight bearing radiographs were taken today because the pain appears to have returned to the same level as 3 months ago. It feels like the top of my foot is literally splitting apart when I walk most of the time.
The x-rays showed that the separation that was present 3 months ago is still the same today. It has not widened, but it also has not closed any.
My orthopedist suggests continued monthly rechecks & if it is still not showing improvement in 2 months (which will make the total time 5 months), he would suggest surgery to stabilize the ligament with a screw(s). I nearly got physically ill when he said this, but he said I cannot wear the boot forever & the longer I go with this separation, the more apt I am for it to become displaced & have permanent damage.
Comments are very welcome, I feel I am in a quagmire here.
Thank you!

Also, I have another question. We had a summer vacation planned for June 2 and will be going to Seaworld which also has a waterpark. Does anyone know of any kind of stiff soled water shoe or something that he will be able to wear? The shoe he has right now is fabric so it can't get wet. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks
