I also have itchy foot problems. I used epson salts in my bath or when I soak my feet. It really does work. It relieves the itch feeling. Now I can have a good night sleep without waking up to itchy feet that drives me crazy.

Hey all...to start from the beginning, last year I sliced my right foot on the bottom on accident by stepping on broken glass. Ever since then it has itched and itched without quitting. It feels like something is crawling on the bottom of my foot. It gets to the point where my skin is drying up, cracking and flaking off, and it is sometimes painful. I work as a Maintenance Person for a hotel and i am required to wear boots. I always keep some powder in my boots, and sometimes rub lotion or Vaseline on my foot but it also doesnt help. PLEASE I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE! SOMEONE HELP!

Me too!!! I've had mine for almost 2 years now and it's driving me absolutely crazy! I saw a dermatologist who has been practicing for 30 years and he told me he had never seen anything like it in his career, he had no idea what to tell me. I've had the skin in the area analyzed and nothing was wrong with the skin. I'm a healthy 32 year old women, I eat well and exercise, I've never had any kind of back problem... I'm just not sure what to do anymore. It does feel good to know I'm not alone in this and hopefully someone can find a cure someday!

I have had the itching for more thsn 10 years nowm deep into the arch of just my right foot. Always worse when my feet are hot and scratching does not relieve for long and if I scratch too hard it becomes painful, but a strange sort of achy pain. Now 10 yrs on (I am female, age 51) I am getting an internittent buzzing in the arch and sole, which I can only attribute to some kind of nerve inflammation or damage. In agreement with another poster, my ankle is also stiffer than on the left foot, with some pains running up the inside of my calf occasionally. My doctor could see nothing wrong except that I have rather dry feet. I know this is not my imagination or anything 'psychological' - one site suggested it could be plantar fascitis or tarsal tunnel syndrome - my symptoms are worrying me now - anyone found an answer since this thread was started?

  5. I have done some reading on this, and from what I could find (I'm not a professional), is that you may need to look up parasite herbal therapy.
Traditional medicine doesn't always lead to answers. So, I searched the non-traditional route. I too have had the same problem on my right foot, and I've noticed some reduction as I have just started oxygen therapy. Look up Oxyflush, OxyGreen, and Oxylift. You can also do a parasite cleansing with black walnut tinture, wormwood root, and cloves. I hope this helps!

I too have an annoying itch and It's been about 10 years since its started. It is not on the bottom of my foot, but the top of my ankle. I once scratched it until it bled (unbeknown to me I was not looking at it only trying to satisfy the itch). It recently occurred to me that I am sure this is nerve pain. I recently had a phlabectomy performed and now the sensation is worse. Now I have cold/numb sensation when I move my ankle a certain way and the itch is now accompanied by a tingle. Is this added discomfort a symptom of the phlabectomy or should I seek a specialist for possible nerve damage?

I have an itchy spot on the arch of my left foot that I've scratched raw now, but just this one spot. It only acts up when I'm laying down. I try itch relieving lotion but nothing seems to work..

My itch started on the inside of my little toe on left foot about 10 years ago when I was 20. I thought it might have been athletes foot but there are no symptoms for it, despite this I still treated it to no avail. Over the last year it has become more frequent on the arch of my foot and seems to come in the afternoon when sitting down or when laying down in bed before I go to sleep. It may come one week but then not occur for another 2 weeks. It seems to come on and off. I’m convinced its not a fungal infection. Oddly, if I think about it itching, it can set it off!

  9. I have had this problem for the last 4 years. I have gone to 4 different doctors and still no relief. All of the doctors say different things, like fungus, eczema, etc. One Dr. wanted to try a steroid and that did not work either. I have scratched and scraped until the ball of my right foot is painfully raw. Like many of the other post it is usually more noticeable at night and the summer months. This is so frustrating that so many of us have the same problem and not a single Dr. has found out what the problem is. Like most of you it feels like there are bugs crawling inside and when I tell this to the Dr's they think I am crazy. Is there anyone out there that has found a permanent relief to this problem? Maybe Dr. OZ can help us.

Pay no attention to the "man behind the curtain." Any doctor who has to routinely show up on TV in scrubs is 99% P R and just the Dr. Phil of medicine.

I had the EXACT same thing about a year ago. I went to the local pharmacy and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He told me to apply Tea Tree Oil to the area. I was fine within a few days. About a week ago, the itch came back with a vengeance. I used the Tea Tree Oil again. It took more applications over a longer period of time but it worked again. I now apply the Tea Tree Oil 3-4 times a day, itch or no itch. Tea Tree Oil is sold over-the-counter in any drug store. Amazing product!

I have this problem on my left foot on part of the arch and heel. I've had it for years! I have to sleep with an ice pack on it to stop the itch and even that doesn't help much, but it's the only way I can sleep.

Absorbine Jr. helps. It lessens the itch but doesn't get rid of it.

I've tried a few things that don't work. I applied Neem to that part of my foot with no luck. I've also soaked my foot in really strong green tea and that didn't work either.

After reading all these I thought I would add as well. Left foot, mainly inside of heel, sometimes around ball under big toe, once in a while along the arch. Scratching at it only makes it itch even more, making me scratch more, itch more, etc etc etc. At the itch areas are small bumps (kind of like blisters) under the skin (deeper than a blister would be). My sister has the same thing and said her Dr. told her it was due to stress. I could place the itch to stressful times but not all the time. Goldbond foot cream seems to help, but not always. If there's an answer for this other than to see some one then great, otherwise I'll still search :/

It's been about 3 years for me. Left foot, the inside arch closer to the heal. I've noticed the onset of it when the weather starts getting warm, like around springtime. Winter it isn't a problem. Just like everyone else the itch is almost unbearable! As I look back, about 6 years before the intense itching began, I would get the feeling that a bug was crawling up the top of my foot and would reach down and try to brush it away only to find there wasn't a bug at all. Now I get tingling, crawling bug feelings in both feet and the main itch spot is my left foot in the arch. After I've itched it I will pull the skin tight and can see white spots under the skin like mosquitoe bites or hives. I've tryed foot creams, ice packs, powders, and even soft scrub that has bleach in it. All of these helped but is no lasting reliefe or cure. I've not taken this to a doc (no insurance!) but I strongly feel that it is related to nerve endings and body temp. I notice it more when I'm sitting or lying down and don't dare let the sheets or anything else brush up against my feet!
Maybe the sciatic nerve has alot to do with this?
    Good luck everyone!

I hope people are checking back into this, because I think I have great news!! after reading so many different ideas for relief...one of them mentioned super glue of all things...along the same lines is something I had in my cabinet.
It is called New Skin Liquid Bandage. It is really working for me. Just brush it on over your itchy spot, let dry, and see if itch is relieved. I have my fingers crossed, but so far so good, it's been about 1 week. I hope you try it, this is the first time I have written in one of these forums, but I just had to share.
Good luck everyone, between all of us, we should stop our itch in its tracks.

I have had an annoying foot itch off and on (never disappears for more than a few days) for at least ten years. It just started and I googled it, here I am. I read this thread and found several things fascinating - for me, the comments on back pain and sciatica. I have had both, had 12 epidurals over 10 years, and finally had a ruptured L5S1 removed. From what I'm reading, my foot itch might be associated with my back problems?... fascinating. I did see a foot doctor some years ago. He noted that my toenails had slight yellowing, though I can't see it, and thought the itch might be related to that, although he could see no sign of anything fungal. He said he could give me a prescription that would get rid of the itch but it could very likely damage my liver. I said no thanks, of course.

I understand i am late on this reply. I hope everyone finds this helpful.

I will say that i have the same problem (still am), but i found out why. For years and years i wore skate shoes. All throughout school i wore skate shoes because they were so comfortable. Flat foot shoes (no i dont have flat feet). Lets say for 10 years i wore skate shoes. Recently my girlfriend saw that i keep the same pair of shoes for about 5 years straight. I dont like to buy new shoes. I wear them until the have holes in them. So finally she made me go out and buy new shoes. I was kinda excited. I bought a pair of nike torchs and nike shox. I guess they are running shoes. Bottom line, the actually fit kinda snug on my feet. With my skate shoes i never tied my shoes and i was able to slip them off and on. Ive been wearing my new shoes for close to 2 months now and ive noticed my feet are very itching. It started at the arch of my foot. It felt kinda like something crawling under my skin. Im only happy when i sit there and scratch it for a few minute. It doesnt hurt, but its annoying to sit there and scratch. This is been going on for a few weeks now (till right now). Finally when i came home today (after comming across this forum) i took off my shoes and noticed reds spots (irritation) around wear my shoe hugs my heel and arch of my foot. It kinda doesnt feel like itching, but lose of blood maybe? Pretty much my shoe hugs my foot in a weird way. For 9 hours straight it rubs those right areas, which is not good for your skin. I suggest to people, try wearing skate shoes. Not SANDALS. Skate shoes. Skate shoes are made flat footed. No arch. Maybe you guys have a weird shape to your foot? Your shoes are hugging it to different? Dunno. I have the same symptoms that everyone else has and i just found out that its my shoes. Ive switched wearing different types of shoes. Try it.

I am a doctor and have foot itch (and have seen patients with it). I just thought I'd make a couple of comments.

    1. First of all, I agree with most of what foot doc has to say.
    2. Second - neuropathy, fungal infections, skin conditions and many other things can cause itching. I think what frustrates most of us is that feet can itch madly without any specific cause.
    3. The useful thing about this conversation is that people can share their frustration and also some ideas on how to deal with the symptom.
    4. If you've seen more than 3 doctors and none of them can find the problem you might want to entertain the possibility that you don't have some strange mystery illness that we just haven't found yet (such as the person who recommended over the counter herbal foot parasite removers). I would concentrate more on finding a way to cope with the symptoms.
    5. The most promising ideas above are topical steroids or antifungals (among other things they used to treat dermatitis and athletes foot respectively). Usually these conditions will have characteristic skin changes but even in the absence of these a short trial course might help. Otherwise topical menthol, witch hazel and moisturizers are all fine ideas - and probably the best way to go. Benadryl, Atarax and similar sedating antihistamines treat allergies; even if you don't have an allergy as a cause, they can still help you by helping you get to sleep.

I have been experiencing this for a couple of months now. Right arch itches all the time. Though not quite as bad as some of you explain. It's still annoying. I am also experiencing back pains as well. I am going to the chiro today. I'm thinking nerves.

Apologies in advance for any typos etc in the below. I'm on my phone, and you can't access your whole message to edit it! There isn't a scroll bar in the message window.

I am so pleased to have found this site! After my itchy foot was driving me crazy last night, I was prompted to do some research on the Internet - and came across this site.

I think my feet started off tickling on the soles. At the time, I thought it was a nervous affliction - like a twitch, or nervous cough. I was very stressed and unhappy at the time, so I thought that once I sorted myself out, I could change my behaviour - and use mental strength to stop it.

Now though, whilst both the soles of my feet 'tickle' every day, I now also have one place on my left sole - almost in the middle - which itches. The itch is deep though, not a surface irritation - I have to use a (finger) nail and some pressure to scratch it hard. As with most people, there is absolutely nothing there.

It would seem that my initial diagnosis of nerves might be correct. I am still stressed and haven't gotten my life completely together - so wouldn't have expected it to go. I do expect it to when I am happier, and more sorted. It would be interesting to hear the state of mind of other sufferers.

Luckily, I am not kept awake with it, but I scratch the soles of my feet all day. It's embarrassing at work - having a shoe dangling off my foot whilst I'm scratching it! It's also annoying in public - having to stop in the middle of a busy pavement or shop, to scratch my foot/feet!

I will try some of the suggestions on here for temporary relief.

Those of you with blisters - that's something quite different I believe. For decades I had small blisters on my feet, and they itched like crazy. The Doctor told me it was eczema, but the cream he prescribed didn't work. I was too embarrassed to go back with such a small issue. Years later, I was having a pedicure - and the therapist told me it was athlete's foot. I never knew athlete's foot could produce blisters. She suggested using Lamisil. I was somewhat sceptical - I couldn't quite believe that this thing that had driven me crazy for decades was simply athlete's foot. Anyway, 5 days later - after using the Lamisil - it had gone, and has never come back! I could not believe that for decades I had been living with something that could be cured in 5 days with an over-the-counter product. I am eternally thankful to her!

She did say eczema can look very similar, so it is difficult to diagnose eczema or athlete's foot. But for you peeps with blisters - give Lamisil (or similar) a try. You have nothing to lose - and could end up with an epiphany like me! it may be eczema though, in which case the steroid creams should work. If they don't, then it may be athlete's foot.
