Default Kohlers Disease

Kohlers disease is an uncommon problem of the navicular bone in children first described in 1908. It is caused by a temporary blood supply problem to the bone that softens it, so the biomechanical pressures in the foot and deforms the bone. It is usually painful and the child will normally point to the top of the foot as they painful area and they will also often limp. There is usually also some swelling. The most common age of onset is around 5 yrs of age. The treatment of Kohlers disease is to put the foot in a walking cast or brace for 6-8 months. Following that a foot orthotic or arch support probably should be worn for at least 6 months to protect the bone,
