    Hi there
I broke the Navicular bone in my foot 6 months ago which I am told is an unusual break. The fracture went completely through the length of the bone into the joint. I didnt have an operation and I have since had physiotherapy. However my foot still causes alot of pain when I walk - it gets worse the gurther I walk. The arch in my foot has fallen and I am due to have an insole designed for my foot. The pain I feel however is all around the front of my ankle and on top of my foot which can lead down to just before my toes. Can anyone shed any light on why its still so painful? I am 21 year old female btw! Also the l;ast x ray I had which was in Sept I was told I had osteoporisis in my foot where I hadnt used it for 2 months.

When a fracture line extends into a joint it generally indicates that the joint cartilage was also damaged, and post-traumatic osteoarthritis and/or joint function compromise of some degree is eventually likely. I cannot say that such is the cause of your present discomfort, but it is one consideration. Disuse osteoporosis is common, and in the absence of other causes, normal bone structure should return on reuse of the part.

    Thanks for your reply.

I did wonder if it possibly could be post traumatic arthritis as I was told when I broke my foot that I was at risk of it. Is it common for arthritis to set in so quickly after an injury? Some days I feel like my bones are grinding and clicking which really is not nice!!

I am being referred back to my consultant but I am waiting for an appointment... I am however seeing a private physiotherapist on Wednesday to see what she thinks.

    Hiya,

I just wanted to say that I went to visit the physiotherapist today and she examined my foot and said that no level of physiotherapy is going to help my foot and that all of the pain is located at the fracture site and needs investigating by a variety of scans.
