In July I badly injured by ankle playing tennis and i'm only just returning to my training. My specialist wants me to have cortizone injections to losen up the joint. Is this neccessary? And is there any non drug methods that will losen up the joint?

Joints can stiffen from swelling, lack of use and from scar tissue if present. Severe joint injuries generally require some sort of physical therapy for rehab after healing has taken place. But not being privy to any of the facts of your case, I have no idea as to whether a local corticosteroid would be indicated.
