hi all. i'm 22 and i broke my right foot. i broke my heel, talus and other tarsal bones.
breaks were not too displaced so i was put in cast and avoided surgery.
i have had full casts and below-knee casts for a total of 7 months couse healing was slow and calcium rate was low.
at the end i could walk on the cast with only minor pains.
now cast came off but i'm in quite bad pains, doc splinted the leg with half of the cast and send me to physio. i'm on crutches and cant' put any weight on my foot. i have to take the splint of to do exercises everytime i can without major pain.
but now pain is quite bad, i could take off the splint only once and i can't do any movement or even put the foot down. my ankle is so weak that can't even bear the weight of the foot so is not possible to stay without splint.
physio and doc say this isn't strange but how is possible that i was able to walk on it when i had my cast?
why i wasn't put in a removable boot? is normal have pain after cast removal? it is first time i break something so i don't know. i want back my cast!
    thank you all

It would certainly be expected that anyone who was in a cast for 7 months would have substantial muscle atrophy and in need of much physical therapy after cast removal to rehabilitate the injured extremity. The cast supply external support which is now absent and what you are experiencing after what sounds like a really bad injury would generally be expected. You need to work diligently in your rehab and offer your caretakers ongoing thoughtful feedback as to your progress.
