im a 22 year old male, and for several years my big toe/ball of foot right behind the big toe on my right foot has random flare ups of pain, but starting yesterday, and even more so today, i have had excruciating pain in my big toe, the joint of my big toe, and the ball of my foot/side of my foot. the best way i can describe my pain, is it feels like someone hit that area of my foot with a hammer. i have to stand up for 8-10 hours a day, every day, so its a problem. right now i can barely move my big toe. thanks for any help.

If there is no history of trauma and especially if the pain is accompanied by redness heat and swelling, I would consider gout.
