I have some nerve damage in my feet from ideopathic peripheral neuropy and pain from low arches and hammer toes. I can deal with these using an occasional OTC medication.

Has anyone here experienced severe problems with foot pain from using the statin drug, Simvastatin? On two different occasions, I've had excruciating stabbing pains in my feet while using this medication. It's so severe, it keeps me from sleeping at night. (I also get bad back pain, sweating and shaking.) When I've gotten off the Simvastation, these symptoms go away.

I was curious to hear if anyone else has had problems similar to mine. Thanks for any input.

    Sue :)

I had heard about statin "muscle problems" in general but hadn't found much about people having foot problems specifically.

Thank you for posting this link. There was good input there.

After reading your link and further research, I'm considering trying out a CoQ-10 supplement (from a reputable company). Certainly can't hurt...

    Thanks for replying.

Yes, I had the same experience with terrible foot pain, which started several weeks after I started a statin and ended about a week after I stopped taking Simvastatin.

The pain included terrible cramping and a lot of what I would describe as nerve pain. It, too, woke me from a sound sleep and was intolerable.

My doctor didn't want to take me off the statin, because he said my symptoms were not well known and he thought the benefits outweighed my experience. I totally disagreed and decided to adjust my diet, exercise more, increase fish oil pills and start taking Metamucil. So far, so good.

I'd love to hear if anyone else had a similar experience with foot pain.

I have been having foot pain as well. I take 40 MG Semvistatin daily. After 6 months of the pain, my doctor is now telling me to stop taking it for 3 weeks and "we will see". I have been to a foot specialist and had a nerve conduction study done. The nerve conduction study concluded that nothing was wrong. They checked for neuropathy and Tarsul Tunal. The foot specialist said that my calf's and the backs of my legs are tight and I need to stretch. I do this for 2 months and still no relief. He then gets me orthodics. It has been 3 weeks. Sill no help. I have been off Semvistatin for only 3 days but the pain is not as bad in the evenings. It actually goes away at night. The pain comes back after walking or standing on hard floors. I hope there is a connection and relief is on the way soon.

Statins are known problem with muscle pain. You have to look at yourself in the mirror, so decide if being fat and unhealthy, and on meds that cause you pain, is what you want. Or get out there and excerise. Stop eating your beefy bean burritos. As somebody else said, metamucil is for those that want to change.

By the way, my big toe hurts all the time. Pain, numbness, sharp shooting pain. But the doctors don't know what's wrong. But the fish oil idea is a good one that i've heard before. I think i'll give it a try.

I started Simvastatin 10mg for three weeks before I developed foot pain. It was a ache/throbbing pain that was there while standing and was 6-7/10 on the pain scale. I stopped the medication and the pain went away in 3-5 days.
I wasn't positive it was the Simvastatin so I tested it by trying it again. Sure enough the pain returned.

I have been having foot pain and take Simvistatins. I have suffered from the pain for two years. I went off the Simvistatins and my pain has subsided, so I'm interested for other people's feedback. I think I'll stop for a while longer
