    Hi,
I'm a professional dancer and have been experiencing severe pains in the right ball of my foot. Xray and Cat-scan showed 2 fractures in my lateral sesamoid on my right foot. I've been put in a non weight bearing cast for 2 weeks and a Cam walker for the past 4 weeks. A more recent Xray has shown that the fractures have not healed and there appears to be sclerosis in the fractured bone. The injured region has calmed down since using the Cam walker but still aches if i try to curl my toes or apply too much pressure on the ball of my foot. Surgery has been proposed but I'm not sure if there is apossibility that surgery might fix the sesamoid but cause problems that may inhibit me from dancing professionally again.

I am desperate for this to be FIXED so that I can return to the dance floor ASAP and would like to get an understanding of similar experiences, healing times and possible Orthos and sports specialists I could go to (Melbourne, Aus region) for a secondary opinion on my options.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Fractures of the lateral (fibular) sesamoid are not very common, and unless pathologic in cause would have certainly been associated with memorable trauma. In the absence of such memory, I would first consider a review of the diagnosis.
