Hi, I"m glad to find this forum.
For the past week I have had a very sharp (like a needle) pain in my big toe, about at the join and medial, but it also radiates back into my foot. It doesn't bother me when I'm up walking around, but sitting or laying down it hurts. What especially hurts is if I move the toe up or to the side (toward the next toe). I hope that description makes sense.
I do have peripheral neuropathy, and this does feel like nerve pain. I have an appointment with my neurologist in February, but he's always open to me doing my own research.
    Thank you.

Assuming that your problem is of nerve etiology, abnormal sensations when sitting or lying down may suggest spinal or nerve root involvement. The same symptoms elicited when only the toe is move is suggestive of local involvement, entrapment or pressure on the nerve. I think that your neurologist should be able to sort this out. But describe in great detail as to symptoms and etiology your existing peripheral neuropathy.
