After breast cancer I was prescribed aromatase inhibitors (Letrozole/Arimidex etc. tried them all!!) I took them for two years and one of their side-effects is joint pain which I experienced. My ankles and feet were particularly painful but I thought it was the drugs. So two years later as I dutifully took my cancer medication during which I walked with difficulty sometimes crawling out of bed on my hands and knees to get to the bathroom in the mornings. I was given more heavy duty pain killers to combat the discomfort as the oncologist consultant thought it was the aromatase inhibitors. Eventually, after discussion again they started me on Tamoxifen to see if that would offer some relief. The joint pain disappeared in all joints except my ankles, knees and lower back. So I thought outside the box and went to the podiatrist who immediately said that my arches had dropped and gave me some rather rigid half-foot inserts manufactured by ysalis (I think that's the correct spelling). I have worn these inserts for 8 months, have done excersices and had physiotherapy at the local hospital but am still in pain although it is easier to walk....

My question is, what do you think I need to do now. The podiatrist suggested I had physiotherapy privately (sports injury specialist) but I couldn't afford it at £50 a session. I can't go on like this as it effects my sleep where I constantly click my ankles and my muscles feel bruised. I would be very grateful for some sound advice here.

    Many thanks in advance

I think your best bet is to get to a rheumatologist and get the cause of the pain properly diagnosed.

Thanks for replying to my problem, Craig. I never thought of rheumatology? what made you think that?
