o.K I've read some of these post and am not looking forward to what lies ahead. I already had a stress fracture of my 5th Metatarsal but really cracked it good playing softball on Sunday the 10/08/009. I went to emergency room about 12 hours later( had to work) I know 2nd bad choice of the day. What concerns me is why did'nt the emergency room dr put a cast on right away? This soft split helps but come on... I dont get it? I 'm am following up with my Podiatrist tommrw but I dont know why he would not do this right off the bat....anyone know why...definetly just looking for some answers....thanks hurting bob...:(

Your post is unclear. I don't know if you are relating that you were in the process of healing a stress fracture when you banged your foot, or if the stress fracture was healed and in the past at the time of the softball injury. I cannot say why a doctor who has examined you made the decision he/she made, but making decisions based on the particulars of the case is part and parcel of good medicine. It could be that you were seen for emergency care only and that the foot, possibly being very swollen, it was decided that a hard cast should wait until the swelling had mitigated and that you were to see a specialist for that, or maybe it was deemed the sort of fracture that didn't require a cast. But those are just two guesses at some possibilities. Certainly, if you have questions regarding a doctor's treatment, the best source of an answer would be that doctor. But this is a month after the incident. Why in the world have you waited a month to either return to the ER or see a podiatrist, especially if the splint you were given kept coming off?

LET ME CLEAR THAT UP IT WAS 11/8/09 THIS PAST SUNDAY. yES IT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HEALING i NEVER REALLY HAD A MAJOR FRACTURE IT WAS VERY MINOR ONE THAT I HAD HURT LAST SEASON PLAYING SOFTBALL AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ANOTHER OF MY MANY ANKLE INJURIES. aFTER MONTHS OF IT NOT GETTING BETTER I WENT TO MY FOOT DR AND THATS WHEN HE TOLD ME IS WAS A JONES FRACTURE AND BECAUSE I WAS WALKING AROUND FOR SO LONG ON IT HE REALLY DIDNT FEEL THE NEED FOR A BOOT...SO MY GUESS IT NEVER HEALED 100 % AND WHEN I MADE THE CUT THE OTHER DAY PLAYING IT FINALLY CRACKED MORE SEVERE. I CHECKED THE X-RAYS AND IT IS QUITE APPARENT THAT I WILL NEED A CAST...AND A BOOT UGH....SO ON THAT NOTE WHAT DO YOU ESTIMATE THE HEALING TIME TO BE IM 43 AND IN GREAT SHAPE. tHIS WILL DEFINETLY HURT MY NORMAL WORK OUT ROUTINE ..LOL THATKS FOR YOUR THOUGHTS....BOB B

I'm sorry, but this is a words-only medium and I can't make heads or tails of your story. The only thing consistent between your first and second posts was the word, "softball."
