Stabbing intermittent pain on side of foot

I too have recently developed this issue. Have you found what caused this? Do you still have the pain? Have you seen a physician?

It's not really appropriate to give a diagnosis over the inter, i would reccomend that you both see a podiatrist or foot specialist, especially given the severity of the pain.

I can give you general information once you have the diagnosis, but there are too many variables to be sure of what it might be.

 

I get a stabbing pain in my toe after I have worn shoes that hurt my feet. It can be any toe as it depends on which toe was crushed the most or rubbed the most when walking
etc. My pain is a severe short stabbing pain which lasts for about 2 seconds or less. The problem is that it comes back in 30 second intervals and I can't sleep at all unless I take some strong pain killers but they don't kick in for hours. Once I wake up the pain is usually gone until I go golfing again or dancing etc. I try to change shoes but then it rubs on another toe and it can happen again. This has only happened to me the last couple of years and only about 8 times. Since I am slightly diabetic and have some neuropathy (nerve damage or worn out nerves) my feet get sore very easily I am almost 70 now. Al S

 

A few months ago I had this issue....intermittent sharp electric type jolts of pain on the top of my left foot. It lasts only in intermittent shorts spurts.....but when the jolt hits I actually have to hold my breathe and yelp. This has returned today....to my grave dismay!!! Earlier in day I sort of felt it was coming on again because my foot felt just a bit sore. It is not related to trauma or movement. It happens when sitting or lying still too. Today in store I was walking normally and it came on....had to just stand still till it passed. i wish I knew why this is happening. I am 57. Not diabetic.

 

I started getting this very sharp stabbing pain in the side of my right foot at 4.30 this morning. It came every 30 seconds or so, and there was no way I could go back to sleep. When I got up it stopped, but this evening it has come back at 7.15 and I'm dreading going to bed, as I know I won't be able to sleep if it keeps going. Has anyone had any answers as to what causes it and what to do about it? I would be very grateful for any information.

Have you been able to seek medical help? What did they suggest? I've been having a similar problem. I am 64, not diabetic but have sciatica, back and inflammation issues. The foot pain started one night when I awoke to a sudden sharp pain on the outside of my foot, between the area just below the toes and before the ankle. It was sharp then went away. It lasted a few seconds. This happened a few times. Then I felt the sudden pain with and excruciating pain like something round was being forced through my vein in my foot. That only happened once. But from that time it has been a sharp intermittent pain with sometimes throbbing, lasting seconds. I put a ace bandage on it to see if it would help, elevated my leg and limited standing on my feet. I do exercise but only once a week and do my regular house work. So I am on my feet for long periods of time. I am trying to limit this to give me possible comfort. I've never encountered this problem before.

 

I have this same issue ... did you find out a cause and treatment for this? Thank you!

 

52, diabetic had the same issue in my left foot. Instant 2 seconds of the worst electric shock pain ever, then back to zero pain for about 30 seconds to 5 minutes then zap! pain again. These attacks last for about 12 hours. Then I had a BK amputation of my left leg. Now the pain has returned in my residual limb. Nothing OTC seems to help and by the time I can get in to see a doc, the attack is over. This pain is 1000x worse than recovering from the amputation. No doc seems to know what it is.

 

No answers here, but count me among those with the same problem. The pain occurred once/ week at first, but now it's several times a day. I'm not even sure whether an orthopedic dr. would be best. Did anyone find some info about this problem?

 

SAME! Horrible, electric, sharp, stabbing pain in the side of my left foot just down from my pinky toe. It comes on out of nowhere and I cry out in pain and jerk my foot, as if to remove it from a hot poker. It's not constant, but seems to come in waves when it hits and happens several times over the course of a few days to a week. I'm 47 with no other medical issues at all. Doctor doesn't seem to understand the severity or know what it could be.

 

The outside of my left foot hurts with waves of burning sensation that prevents sleep. The location is exactly opposite my left arch. When I palpate the boney structure the sensation does not change. Specifically, the skin from the sole to the top of my foot nearly to my ankle is extremely affected.

 

I've tried everything. Tonight massaged the side of my foot with equate Pain Relieving Cream. I traced the pain down to my small toe while applying the cream. The pain is almost gone with only occasional waves of minor pain. It is no cure, but the relief is real, smelly, but welcome.

 

Sitting here at 5 AM looking for answers to the intermittent stabbing pain on side of my foot. Woke me up at 2 AM. I have back issues but the pain meds for my back give no relief for this pain. Tried different nerve creams but no help. It feels like an electric shock or constant Bee sting.
The pain lasts for 5 seconds and returns 15-30 seconds later. No way to sleep with the reoccurring pain. I suspect Neurothapy/Nerve pain.
I’ve been told that Gabapentin/Neurontin helps with Nerve pain and might have to look into taking this but it may have some side effects. I just a CBD capsule and waiting to see if it helps. If not I have a "Tens" machine which puts out electrical pulses and may try to induce some shock pains into my foot and fight Fire with Fire. I wish there was a cure or relief and feel sorry for all those that are suffering with this unbearable pain. Fingers crossed as I wait for the CBD capsule to dissolve. Will give it an hour then move on to the shock therapy (Tens Unit) next.

For the first time in six years and two different back operations, I thought my feet were healing. Both had numbness over that time period with my right being worse than the left. I drive a school bus so I cannot take Gabapentin. I noticed that over the last few weeks that I was getting some tingling in my right foot again. Then last night I started getting the sharp 1 second jabbing pain every 30 seconds or so. I am hoping that this is just the process of the nerves waking up.
