Possible bone infection following partial nail avulsion

I am a week after a partial nail avulsion on my big toe (both sides). I have had redness, swelling, bruising, and deep hard pain since about day 2-3. I have been soaking 2-3 times per day and using antibiotic ointment (mupirocin). Three days ago I called and they called in an antibiotic (doxycucline hyclate). Today I went back in and they said to come back on Thursday (three days from now). The podiatrist said something about an x-ray if it's not better by then.

The pain is getting worse - hard deep throbbing. I am wondering if I should call them back tomorrow - or go see my family doctor - or call my orthopedist?
