3 weeks ago I had a partial ostectomy for a saddlebone deformity at the cuneiform and 1st metatarsal. I've had severe nerve pain from the superficial peroneal nerve and the saphenous pain for 2 weeks. My doctor says the nerves are just angry but won't tell me how long I have to suffer from this. I'm ready to lose my mind because of th pain, tingling and weird numbness. Can anyone help???

I should add that my surgeon who said I just have angry nerves is not involved with me right now so I'm shopping for a doctor. My surgeon did NOT inform me that I would need 4-6 weeks off for recovery. I told her multiple times I was only taking 2 weeks off and asked if that would be enough and I found out the hard way it is not. I'm at work now (in the medical imaging field) and I feel like I have a hot knife in my foot. Does anyone know if the irritated nerve pain will decrease????? Thanks

I don't know why the nerves should be "angry" unless perhaps they were indelicately handled during surgery. But not knowing what sort of damage they may have sustained, your guess as to how long, it ever, it will take for the adverse nerve symptoms to resolve is as good as mine. It is foolish for any surgeon to make an unqualified promise as to how long disability might last after any surgery. I make a good-faith estimate based on my experience, but I always tell my patients that if delay in healing and subsequent inability to return to work longer than what is generally anticipated is something that cannot be tolerated, they should not have elective surgery. I stay clear of making definitive promises, as I would much rather lose a potential surgery than have an angry and disappointed patient.
