The function of a cast would be to assure immobilization of the fracture site to help ensure good bone to bone union. There is no magic about the length of time predicted for fractures to heal and some heal soon and some later than predicted. It is up to the attending physician to determine if time in cast is adequate and certainly no one here could give you an accurate answer to your question. But if the cast is painful, perhaps it was poorly applied and/or padded, or made ill-fitting by either swelling or reduction in swelling. Ill-fitting casts can create other problems, sometimes severe, which might require further treatment, and such complaints as you have offered here should be brought promptly to the doctor's attention and not be ignored. There is normally no reason, though, why the cast cannot be removed, the area of problem inspected and a new cast applied if your doctors decides it still needs to be worn. It's removal shouldn't be YOUR choice in any event. Talk immediately with you doctor.
