Hi I am going to make this long so I can give as much detail as possable.
I have been dealing with the top of my right foot swelling along the extensor digitorum tendon since 2006. I have worked on concrete floors all my life standing in one spot for most of the day. I have been tested for nerve damage, back issues, acute fractures, stress fractures, circulotory problems etc. These issues started when I was about 20 pounds over weight. A dr. told me I had fibromalgia and basically was on rest for almost a yr. I did therapy etc and nothing. I finally went to a chiropractor back home who did a very long history of my illnesses. For the first time I actually felt better. I moved away and began to see another chiropractor but the pain came back in my right foot. It burns, tingles and has a stabbing pain no matter if I am standing, sitting or sleeping. Again I had been working long hrs standing on concrete floors with not the proper shoes. I had been to a million dr and had the same tests done as mentioned previosley plus more mri's, cbt, x rays. Everyone of them said I had mild soft tissue swelling with subcutaneous edema present. (ct) the mri demonstrated edema along the extensor digitorum tendon as well as edema lateral to the calculus. I have never broke or sparined my ankle but I had been doing some repetative foot exercising where I would lean forward and push both of my feet (one at a time) outwards very fast and come in and do this for the scheduled time. I finally saw a podiatrist after every other specialist and she told me I had a ganglion after looking at an x ray. I had it injected twice and was pain free for almost a yr. since a very painful death in the family I have gained about 70 pounds and just started the gym again doing the repetative foot motions and my pain came back full force. My podiatrist injected it once with cortisone and put me on predisonse. This did NOTHING. Still back and for for over a month my foot became so knotted while I continued to work and it felt like shoe leather. I went for a second opionon because I was barley able to drive and in so much chronic pain. The second podiatrist spent over 2 hrs with me and took a complete history and when I told him the motion I was working my foot at the gym he said BINGO. I was so swollen aroung the ankle and top of my foot he did about 5 slow cortisone injections and put me on an anti inflamation (motrin) I was feeling pretty good-continued to go to work where I work about 11 hrs now sitting down most of the time and even begain some household chores. The pain came back about 7 days later bad on my vein area where the veins run thru looking like a V. We did 2 more cortisone injections and I contined work in pain. 3 days later I needed to go back in because my foot swelled up again at the V and I was in tears from the burning pain. We did ultra sound and changed my meds to celebrex and put a stretchy ace bandage on and he told me complete bed rest for 6 days and to call the office on the 5th day. He also had me get an rx of 5 meds made into a compound that I have to rub on 3-4 times a day followed by aloe vera. He was very confident that I would see and feel a huge improvement by then. Well not moving has relieved some pain but I lay on the sofa all day elevating it. I am so afraid to walk on it or apply any pressure. On thurs my pain level was a 12 and even a slight touch to the V area of my vein would send me into a crying rage. Now I can rub the meds on but I still have swelling on the top of the foot and burning pain. My ankle seems to be fine. He said worse case is that a have tendinitis and would do an mri to look specifically for that. I am so afraid that with this bed rest I am going to hurt my foot again when I go back to work. Is there some kind of support I can wear besides this bandage? Does this sound like tendinitis? what can get the swelling and pain down from the top of my foot on the vein? I have been very honest with this dr, giving him all my history and this is what we came up with. I am planning on taking off this weight but I have had this right foot problem fat and thin. I am just so depressed and in chronic pain! I am listeing to the Dr. and doing bed rest but I am getting frustrated and want this to heal yesterday! I know you can't give diagnosis but I am open to any information you can give me.. Can this be tendinitis and will celebrex, and compression help heal or could there be a build up of fiborous tissue that needs to be surgically removed. Does ultra sound really do anything. This problem started in march and had been left untreated for a few weeks because no one wanted to listen, they just wanted to send me to pain management and told me to deal with it as they were pumping with only pain pills that did NOTHING>

Other than for the recitation of a litany of failed treatments, which does not necessarily translate to incorrect diagnosis I have gleaned from you only the following:

You have had a problem with your right foot swelling along the extensor digitorum tendon since 2006. It burns, tingles and has a stabbing pain at all times. Not moving and elevating relieves some pain. After seeing a lot of non-foot-doctors, a podiatrist told you that you had a ganglion, and injected it once with cortisone and put you on prednisone, and that did not help. You saw another podiatrist who suggested that your problem might be caused by some exercises you were doing and afforded you temporary relief with the use of corticosteroid injections and NSAIDS. Your ankle, you now say, seems to be fine.

I cannot tell you specifically what I would do for you if you were a patient of mine, but I would start off by eliciting from you a far better history of the problem itself before delving into what others had told you and what they had tried without success. I would say that if a competent doctor really spent 2 hours with you on a first visit, as you have stated, and could not come up with even a specific diagnosis, that you are terribly unlikely to obtain one on the Internet, and certainly not through through mainly a recitation of failed treatments.

Although I certainly can offer you nothing but a blind guess, as they are generally so easily diagnosed, the ganglionic cyst diagnosis sounds as reasonable as any, although it is not a condition that is generally diagnosed by x-ray and the treatment you related would not have been my first choice.

Again another ridiculous answer. How is it possible the doctor who checked this persons foot for 1-2 hours could not determine the cause have anything to do with searching for answers on the internet? Realize the fool who answered to this post obviously has no idea how many mistakes, mis diagnosis and other errors are made by doctors everyday. The last study i read was 60% Of hospital deaths are related to doctor or hospital mistakes. This i read couple years back. And this was conducted using only a 10% sample of data. I also know first hand how doctors and nurses carelessly mis match perscriptions of hospital patients and cause many to go into coma's. So what on earth is the responder talking about. Serious the person who answered this post is a nuissance to this online service. Additionally, realize that many wealthy families want their children to become doctors for
Prestige and to make a good living. Some of these kids it takes many tries for them to finally pass the test to acheive and costs the families much money. But hey why not little robert must become a physician.... This is the problem with our system today people are buying love today and getting it. The beatles are way off. There are some good doctors out there but very very hard to find. Any doctor that is part of HMO or any other healthcare network is most likely useless and terrible. Realize most all our US Senate know the pharmacy is the best investmemt selling little Pills to people who need them daily. What better way to invest and make money when you can also vote and pass the medical laws too. Keep looking for answeres to your problem and realize most doctors actually dumb and surely the person who first responded is dumber but seek answers and you shall find!!
