    Hello,

I have an ingrown toenail on my big toe. The right side of my nail is curved so far in that it is almost in the middle of my toe! However, I don't know that it's infected - there's no pus and it's not really that red, but it is very swollen.

The skin around that side of my nail has turned black, and very hard. The toe is also very painful.

So my question is, if there may not be an infection, should I go to the doctor? Also - why is the skin black?

    Thanks

DUH . . . The "cryptic" advice was that if you have a black toe, you don't write to a forum, you go see a doctor . . REAL FAST!
