Unhappy Dreaded Mortons Nuroma

Well, my surgery is next wed. Ive been working with my podiatrist on and off for a year. And was diagnosed with a Nuroma in each foot then. After 2 sets of shots I felt much better (1 year ago), and then last week I went in for a cortisone shot because my toes started going numb and I started experience bad pain. Worse than the first time around. Several days later my feet hurt so bad that I can barley stand to sit down, stand up, walk around, or do anything without my nuromas flaring up. My pain is so bad, I've had broken bones and ribs that didnt hurt this bad. My doctor is out of town right now and wont be back until next week but I am undergoing SO much pain that the vicodin he gave me, numbs my body to it and thats about it. No anti inflamatory works either. I cant sleep because it aches, burns, feels like glass in my feet, and I feel like im being beat with a bat on the side of my legs. As of yesterday I got shooting pains up and down my legs on the outter sides of both calfs. I have been covering my legs and fet with bags of towel wrapped ice for 3 days now, no one told me that would even help, i just decided to see what it would do since nothing else worked. Why is it that I have unberable pain? Why is it that it gets worse everyday? Im not wearing high heeled shoes anymore, I have not in 3-4 years. Why is it that I cant do anything without this standing in my way? He didnt say anything about having more than one in each foot, other than it could happen. He felt both of the nuromas on each foot and it hurts like you know where to touch it, so bad I can barley walk and its really sore after I touch it. Any advice? Thanks!

Pain and how it is tolerated is a very individual thing, but in more than 30 years of practice where I have seen countless numbers of patients with Morton's neuroata, I do not recall every seeing one who described the degree of pain that you have and especially pain other than in the foot itself, and I certainly have never had the occasion to prescribe Vicodan or other strong narcotic analgesic for it. I have to wonder if you might also have other diagnoses or complicating factors.
