Default Hyperkerotosis

Please explain what the surgical correction of the bony prominence that may be causing the high pressure area on the ball of the foot. It looks and feels like a corn...not a large area. It gets extremely sore, red and makes it very painful to walk. Presently have an orthotic, but podiatrist says another type could be made allowing a place for the corn to set into the space and then padding around it. I've tried to simulate that with a corn pad covered with moleskin. It helps a little, but it is still painful.

If what you are talking about is what is commonly called a seed corn, a bony prominence is an unlikely cause, and if that is the case, bone surgery is not appropriate. Treatment for permanent correction is hit and miss. If it is a callous on the ball of the foot, it is generally due to there being excessive weight-bearing on the metatarsal head superior to the callous. There are various surgical procedures intended to normalize the weight-bearing. I don't know which if any have been recommended to you. Non-surgical care is also generally available, the nature of which is depended upon the findings.
