Default excruciating foot pain

hi there. I am new here and have been searching for a place to ask this question. My left foot KILLS! My arch is deep, very deep and for the past 2 months the underside of my arch feels like is contracting, now the top of my foot is killing clear up to my ankles. It is worse if I just wake up in the morning or EVEN IF I sit for just a few minutes and then try getting up....I am literally limping. If you can imagine an upside down letter "V"....this is what my foot feels like.

I've had cortisone shots before and the relieved the arch pain after life 5 shots. But a friend of mine said that you are not supposed to have more that a couple of cortisone shots A YEAR because it's bad for you....is this true? Why? The friend is really a friend of MY friend, she is a nurse and she told me this like a year ago when I started having the problem, again this is the first time the top of my foot and anke (inner and outer) have been involved. PLEASE HELP ME!! what does it sound like? I was told before that sometimes surgery is needed to cut that tendon or whatever it is so that it's not so tight....?????? thanks a bunch for any input. Tricia

also, I can not put any weight on my left foot at all. It is my bones on the top of my foot that hurt so bad. I do not remember twisting my ankle or iinjuring myself either. I wonder what this is from? thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! triciasheets@sbcglobal.net

I can certainly sense both your concern and your frustration, and I am going to try my best to sift through the zig-zags which I see in your post to come up with some sort of reasonable thesis.

My best guess from what I infer you have said is that you have a pes cavus deformity (excessively high arched foot), probably a tight Achilles tendon, perhaps some equinus (plantar-flexed default ankle position) and likely some plantar fasciitis. If much of that is the case, there is little that I can offer in a forum venue to detail precisely what needs to be done and in what order. But if I am correct in my supposition, you need a doctor who can offer you comprehensive solutions and not simply symptomatic treatment with such as local corticosteroid injections. But addressing your concerns regarding those injections, every medication must be employed adequately, but judiciously. There are certainly down-sides to the use of corticosteroids, both locally and systemically. But there is no hard and fast rule as to how many injections over any specific time are too many. Your nurse friend certainly has a point, but she is likely not sufficiently well-founded in the use of corticosteroids to make the blanket statement which you attributed to her. If your doctor is experienced and competent, he/she should know when enough is enough. But doctor selection is always key.

I don't correspond directly with questioners, so, if you know that you will lose your favorites on your computer, write down the address this site.
