Default Arthritis After Hammer Toe Surgery??

I had hammer toe and bunion surgery almost 2 years ago and I am experiencing severe pain in the site area of the hammer toe surgery. (Metatarsal area)
I have been back 3 times to my surgeon and tells me maybe he sees beginning signs of arthritis in the x-ray, which migh be a result of the surgery.
What can I do to relieve that pain. Everytime I wear any sort of dress type shoe, I have extreme pain for the next couple of days. Normally, I am in bearable pain, but it definately intensifies after going out.
Can further surgery ease the pain if it is in fact arthritis that is setting in from the surgery?
Please respond asap - thank you so much

The hallmark of osteoarthritis is generally pain on first usage of the joint after a period of rest, which then mitigates, at least somewhat, on continued use of the joint, and then with a probable return to increased pain on long-term usage. Your doctor's statement does not lead me to definitively conclude that your condition is arthritic in nature, although it could be. Therefore it would be inappropriate for me to offer specific advice as to how the pain might be relieved and/or if further surgery might be appropriate. A clear diagnosis is necessary for making definitive treatment recommendations, and treatment advice based on an errant or incorrectly presumed diagnoses can be potentially harmful.
