    Hi,
I broke a bone on the outside edge of my foot when I fell over 1 week ago today.

Ive had xrays and the doc said its broken, but its too swollen yet to do anything.

He said once the swelling has gone down, its my choice if i want a fibreglass cast or just rest it and keep it up and use crutches.

I got the crutches and omg they suck, I dont think I can keep using them.

The swelling has gone down a bit but I keep walking on it which isnt helping.

So I am just wondering on ppls thoughts whether I should get a cast or not.

Ive never had one but Ive heard they are sometimes more trouble than they are worth?? And if I get a cast, will I be able to walk on it without using crutches?

    Cheers

Perhaps you are talking about a minor avulsion fracture of the styloid process of the base of the 5th metatarsal. That is sometimes treated with as little as firm taping and a stiff-soled or surgical shoe, but walking casts or walking boots are probably more commonly employed. The determination of what is best for any individual case should be left to the attending doctor who should, as in every case, be selected and vetted with care.
