Default Charcot foot symptoms but no diabetes. Help!

My 53-yr-old husband has progressive fractures in 4 of the 5 metatarsals in his right foot with no pain, just swelling, redness and heat. The first X-ray showed one break, then later X-rays showed two and an MRI scan finally showed four. It is the classic symptom of Charcot Foot but he is not diabetic, is super fit, doesn;t have osteoporosis as far as we know and appears to have full sensation. After six months in boots and then a full cast and crutches (now back in the boot) he is going out of his mind and no one seems to be able to help. His consultant says he is a medical mystery and that he will probably write his case up. We see the neurologist this week for neuropathy tests but aren't holding out much hope as he can feel everything (but broken bones). I have him on calcium supplements, silica and Bone-Net plus have ordered an electromagnetic pulser that is supposed to reduce inflammation and improve healing. Any other suggestions? We are desperate. Thanks.

Charcot's foot is most frequently but not always associated with diabetes. In fact, it is reported that Charcot first described the condition in a syphilitic. But I would personally have to question the specific diagnosis of Charcot's Foot in a patient who has no sensory deficit. Has he had any explanation from his doctor why he/she believes this to be Charcot's?

What is your husbands hand strength like?
For example; can he get the lid of a new bottle of sauce(screw top) that he would have done so easily 2 or 3 years ago and struggles with now? not very scientific l know but never the less has his hand strength diminished over the last couple of years that is notable?

There are other forms of CMT and they are not related to Diabetes

You are confusing Charcot's foot, which is the condition with which the poster is stating her husband has been diagnosis and Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT). They are different and unrelated conditions.

We have now been told after neurological tests that, despite the fact that he can feel hot and cold, pins and scratches, he has peripheral neuropathy with less than 50% nerve function in his feet. His hands are fine. Any thoughts on how best to deal with this problem? Is it likely to get worse? He's given up alcohol, is taking ginko biloba and thiamine, plus a range of calcium and bone-knitting supplements.
