Default I had Bunion and Hammertoe Surgery 1 Week + 3 Days Ago!

Hi everyone. My name is Jijji. I am 31 years old and had a moderate bunion. I was lucky because I didn't have to have my bone cut, but just shaved. I honestly feel good about the surgery so far. The first day was horrible! The pain was terrible. Yet after the first day the pain became less of a problem. I had no problems with nausea... even when the doctor instructed me to take double the dose on the first day for the pain, which didn't really help much. Now I feel good. I still can't walk on my foot. It hurts when I walk on my heel. Yet if I keep it up I feel good. I went back to work today on a wheelchair and under light duty, which is good. I am glad. I would have to say that so far the worse thing about the surgery is being bored and not able to do many things.

I would like to talk to others who have had this or similar surgeries done just to compare my progress.

I do trust my doctor and plan to do my left foot with him once the right foot is healed.

On my 1st post op visit he was very happy and pleased with my results. He told me that I was healing very quickly and that I didn't even need any antibiotics. I was happy.

Do you realize that the poster to whom you are addressing your question and to whom you gave your wishes posted 6 months ago and received no replies at that time? I would not hold my breath for her reply. Do you have specific questions about YOUR possibly intended surgery? If so, give the particulars of your case.

Thanks for you interest.
I have arthritis on the large joints of my big toes and i suspect due to many years of truck driving and using my toes rather than the ballof my foot. As the cartledge is waring out the bone is bigining to flare out ot compensate.
I have been told about titanium implants. What are your thoughts?
and that there are advances in stem cell technology for cartledge rejuvenation. I am a bit concerned about fussion as it maybe overly restrictive. I am a 48 yearld active male.
Regards
Robert

The decision as to whether implants are the best course is dependent on a full evaluation of the condition and the patient, including his life-style needs. Generally, I would consider a fusion the most radical of decisions and certainly the least functional procedure which may not be appropriate for an active person who needs to remain active, though, in certain cases, it might be the best approach. For many, I have personally found that an old fashion Keller procedure without an implant works well, though, it too is not a completely functional procedure. But again, I remind you that it is the doctor's responsibility to pick the treatment which best fits the patient and his/her needs and condition. It is probably not the best course to shop doctors for a particular procedure rather than shopping for the best doctor to make the decision on the most appropriate treatment. I think it in general a flawed and dangerous policy to base your decision on the recommendations of other patients who can have no way of knowing if their condition or their needs parallels yours, especially as those who are displeased generally have the loudest voices.

Default hammer toes salesman

After 50 solid years driving a car my right foot has hammer toes.
Two reasons:
*The stress on the ligaments constantly on the gas pedal

*The transmission beside right foot creates a constant magnetic field which I'm convinced caused some of the deformity.

I would strongly and vociferously disagree on both of your cause and effect assumptions . . ESPECIALLY the later.
