    Hi,
I'm 23 and i broke my 5th metatarsal (oblique / displaced) 5 weeks ago and didn't have an operation, instead theyre just letting it heal with my foot in a cast and non-weight bearing. I was just wondering.......
    > What does mending bone feel like? My foot tingles quite a lot and feels like someone is squeezing my foot. Is this normal or shall I see the doctor?
    > Is there a chance that for some reason the bone won't heal at all? Or is it just a matter of some bone taking longer to heal than others? I had an x-ray 2 weeks ago and the surgeon said that no healing had so far taken place but wait and see in case something happens....
    > When I use transport, my foot hurts quite a bit after. Does the vibrations of transport slow down healing?

    Thanks!

There is no particular sensation associated with bone healing.

Because the trauma which caused the fracture likely caused other damage to soft tissues including nerves, it is not uncommon to experience paresthesias. But tingling could also indicate undue pressure on a nerve or swelling causing such pressure. Tell you doctor and let him/her decide.

    Yes
Possibly . . and some fractures are less prone to heal well than others.

Not likely if the fracture segments are adequately stabilized and immobilized. But, as you are experiencing pain, perhaps they aren't.
