proximal 5th metatarsal pain

    Hello!
    I have pain bilaterally at the proximal end of the 5th metatarsal. No history of injury. The pain is constant, and varies from dull to sharp and burning. I would say that both sides are slightly enlarged, but no visible signs of inflammation. My symptoms are getting worse. I am a treadmill runner, but have cut down significantly due to the discomfort. What might this be?
