Default midshaft spiral fracture on 5th metatarsal

Just a question on healing time. I had a spiral fracture midshaft on 5th meta, and am wondering about average healing times. It has been 6 wks, and I had another x-ray and it showed no signs of healing yet. What is the average time until I show healing? When healing is shown on x-ray, does that mean I can travel long distances then? I have an international flight at 10.5 wks post injury. Is that enough time in a "typical" spiral fracture, mid-shaft to heal?
Any advise or experiences please!

If after 6 weeks, a doctor really cannot detect any signs of a healing process in a fractured metatarsal, I would call it a problem. Uneventful healing of most uncomplicated metatarsal fractures generally takes about 6 weeks. Some fractures of the 5th metatarsal can be especially problematic and might take longer, heal poorly or not at all. But you need to be discussing this directly with your doctor, not be searching the Internet for opinions of others who know nothing of the specifics of your case.

thank you for your quick answer. I am being seen by my father in-law. He is a pod. and seems to be telling me that it could take 12 wks for me to see healing in my foot. I have not sought another opinion yet, but am going to. I originally saw my father-in-law's partner, who said surgery is an option. But then my father-in-law said it is crazy and I should not have surgery. I don't know what to believe, but it's been almost 7 wks and I am just starting to seek advise from others.

As I said, it is a spiral fracture, midshaft, in my 5th meta. It isn't a clean break, as to why they said it was a spiral fracture. But it was not displaced. I guess my real question was if it is normal to see healing now, and I guess that it is. So I will be seeing someone else to get a second opinion.

Any other advise?

Although I certainly cannot base a meaningful conclusion on the words you use or were told, a spiral fracture would indicate to me that there was a tortional component in the mechanism of injury. That sort of fracture commonly results in some displacement, and if that is the case, I have to wonder why an ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation) was not done in the first place. But, then again, I never saw the fracture. Your present situation is demonstrative of one reason for not having a close relative treat him/her medically, as you are now likely in the uncomfortable position of having to let your father-in-law know that you question his professional competence. Were he not a relative, you likely would feel far more comfortable doing that.
