big toe hurts

    When you rub my foot there is a popping feeling on top and a horrible surge of pain into my big toe. Also some mornings when walking down the stairs putting pressure on my toes there is a sharp pain. Can anyone tell me what this is. I know months ago I dropped a weight on it. It didn't break but bruised the top of my foot real bad. And it's in only one foot and one toe.
