Hello all! Please see my issue below and let me know if you have experienced EXACTLY the same thing- perhaps you can help me.

HOW IT HAPPENED: I fell awkwardly playing soccer and experienced pain in the outside of my left foot and little bone type of thing behind my knee on the outside. Both hurt for about a week and I rested and it got better. I went back to playing soccer and I can run fine with little or no pain. However, when I kick a ball, or when a ball hits my left foot from a long distance away, there is a sharp, numbing pain and I can't put weight on it for a couple of minutes. After that, pain and numbness goes away and I can continue playing until the same thing happens again. If I stay off of it for a couple weeks, it seems to get better, but then if I kick a ball again after that time, it repeats the same process over.

If I grab my foot from the bottom with my right hand (fingers on the outside and thumb on the inside) and squeeze, there is pain on the outside center of the foot. If I try to point my toes up, there is slight pain on the outside center and also my two little toes where they meet my foot. Otherwise, there is virtually no pain. There is no swelling or bruising that I can see. Occasionally, when I get it hurt badly, there is pain and stiffness the next morning when I first walk on it but then it goes away in an hour or two. It has been going on now for 3 months since I first injured it and no sign of stopping anytime soon. PLEASE HELP!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am happy to give more info/answer questions.

    Best Regards,
    Dan

I forgot to add: If I am walking down steps, particularly without shoes on, and not paying attention, and I step with back half of my foot on step and front half off the edge of the step, so that all of my weight is targeted directly to the bottom middle of my foot, it creates virtually the same reaction as when I kick a ball- sharp pain, numbness, and cannot bear weight- all of which will eventually go away in a couple of minutes.

That sound like a pretty complicated problem.

I'm not sure what is going on, so i'd reccomend that you see a foot specialist to have it diagnosed.

The type of pain you describe is consistent with neuritis, which is not uncommon following and injury like yours.

It is possible that there is some swelling that is putting pressure on a nerve, which could cause the pain you describe.
