Do plantar warts have to have the appearance of black dots? Years ago I did have plantar warts and they did have black dots. Took ages for a podiatrist to get rid of them. Now I have on the edges of both feet bumps in callouse type skin but there are no black dots. I'm now wondering if this is some kind of corn.

When tiny black dot are seen in an actual wart, it is generally a good sign, as these frequently are the result of clotted capillaries which general portend an imminent resolution of the viral growth. Sometimes somewhat similar black dot can be seen in callouses when there has been some intra-dermal bleeding, often from friction, but in such cases, it is NOT analogous to dots seen in a wart as far as foreshadowing a resolution is concerned.
I'm sorry but I don't understand your answer. I cannot see any black dots on these calloused spots. I have had these for quite some time and there have never been any black dots.
Are you saying they still could be plantars warts? Or corns? or something else.

There are different varieties of plantar warts. Not all have the classic 'black dots'. It is important that your VP is correctly diagnosed before proceeding with a treatment plan, so may I suggest looking up your nearest Podiatrist in the Yellow Pages and booking a consultation.
That is very helpful thank you. You answered the question I had and I will go and have it assessed. Because it did not present like the ones in the past I wasn't sure it was the same problem.

As I had previously pointed out, the black dots, if and when they appear, are not a definable characteristic of a particular TYPE of wart, but are commonly, but not always seen in almost any wart when is is on its way out, and probably are the result of tiny clots within the blood supply of the growth portending its death. As I most always do, often to the vocificerous chagrin of some readers, I, too, would recommend seeing a podiatrist. But relying on the Yellow Pages for a selection, especially if the criteria is the nearest one, is no better than flipping a coin with your health. Not that the treatment of warts requires the most cutting-edge credentials, but there are far more appropriate ways of selecting a quality doctor, or any professional for that matter, than simply flipping through the phone book.
