Big toenail in pain

Alright, so i play basketball and one day i think it hurt my toe nail while i was running or stopping or something. Anyways the toe itself doesn't hurt at all. The pain is from whenever there is pressure put on the part of my toenail where it meets the skin on your toe, so i guess the cuticle area. Also right now, when i feel around that area it seems like i can feel the end of the toenail itself and i can sort of see a bulge under the skin. Im unsure of what to do right now, shall i go see a doctor or just wait and see if the nail will grow and push the old one out?
