    Long story short:

-developed bunions at the ripe age of 21.
    -got surgery nov 8th
-from the start i thought my foot still looked abnormal; i guess i cant expect perfect feet as im really only after pain free walking.
-just looking for input on the outcome of my procedure.
-x-rays show that the angles of the bones have improved decently.
-big toe still point inward more then i think is "normal"
-doctor says it is fine and everything is going well.
-I am now starting to actually walk around with the aid of crutches.
-I forget the name of the procedure but he said he shortened the 1st metatarsal, pulled the toe over, did soft tissue work to improve metatarsal bone angle and shaved the bone.
-doctor originally planned to do a double ostectomy but said when he "go in there" he could do it with a single.

Dont mind the loss of the nail, 2 weeks pre opp i dropped a weight on it doing weighted pull ups.

note, the left foot was slightly worse then the right. angle was 17 degrees while right is 15 i believe.

I personally believe it is not possible to make accurate decisions as to what osteotomies need to be done intra-operatively. It would be helpful to see the weightbearing pre-operative photos and ESPECIALLY the pre and post-operative x-rays prior to commenting on the results.

Thanks, I will try to see if I can get my hands on my xrays.

A pre-op picture of the left foot, if available, could be helpful to better assess the result of the surgery. Pre- and post-X Ray are of course of paramount importance.

I am a retired 80-year-old surgeon-in chief, I am not familiar with these "threads", so I read only the patient's first post without reading your answer. I meant no offence. Please accept my apologies. There was no need to be so sarcastic. From the tone your answer I infer that the presence of an orthopedic surgeon is not welcomed at all in the thread. Regards.

My how unnecessarily TOUCHY! Mine was a rather innocuous comment merely expressing wonderment as to why that which I had already posted, if not word for word, certainly in essence, was repeated by you in the very next post. The fact that you used the term "threads" certainly would indicate a reasonable degree of familiarity with the format of forum sites such as this. But I see no rational reason for you to infer that your specialty had anything to do with my comment or that comments from orthopedic surgeons are not welcomed here. Chill out!

I seen your name in blogs and I have a question?

Hi Dr. Thank you!!!! And I hope you are enjoying retirement? (I it was you who posted that were retired)

I've seen your name on a few post and blogs, and I have clicked on the links you recommended and I have received some great information.

I have a question for someone with your years of experience.....I had bunion surgery when I was 19yrs old. I am now 57 and my bunion area feels tight /sore all the time. My kind husband rubs it every night for me. I also ask him to pull slightly on it to alleviate the pain.

Does a 2nd bunion surgery ever improve the sore, tight feeling? have not had an xray yet to see what is going on. I am just doing research at this time. I love to ballroom dancing. In your opinion Is it worth getting surgery again, or do I just live with the pain for the next 30 years? My fear is that I might even have more pain and less movement in my toe with a second surgery.

    Thank you for your time.
